Options and Settings

There are a few options that alkasir offers in its current version as shown in the below pop-up window that appears after clicking 'Options / Circumvention Settings' on the main interface window:

Start with windows
The option ( Automatically start alkasir with Windows ) is to have alkasir run automatically with Window's startup and this is the case by default.

Program updates
The other option ( Check for updates on program start ) is to have alkasir check for program updates (new version releases) every time the program starts. This is the default and it is recommended to keep it that way.

Stealth mode
When the option ( Activate stealth mode ) is checked, the icon of alkasir will be hidden and prevented from appearing on the system bar. If activated, the only way to open alkasir's interface will be by running the alkasir (open mode) from the application folder of alkasir [Start->Programs->alkasir->alkasir (open mode)]. It is possible to identify if alkasir is working or not by diagnosing the settings (here) or simply by attempting to open any of the approved blocked websites.

Listening port (deprecated in 1.3)
There is also an option to change the local port the program uses to listen for incoming socket connections. Occasionally, there may be a conflict of ports because another program may already be using that specific port. So it is possible to use an alternative port in such circumstances.

Periodic updates of blocked status (deprecated in 1.3)
The program also checks if websites that are signaled as blocked have become unblocked. This is useful because if a website is unblocked, it reduces the burden on the network and allows you to browse it quicker. The default period is to check those websites daily but it can be done weekly, monthly or even never at all. Note however that not checking if a websites is not blocked any more doesn't mean that it will not be lifted from the blocked list once it is found to be unblocked because any user who has this option on by default will trigger the server to remove the blocked website regardless if you have it on or off.

Interface language
You can change the interface language of alkasir any time through this setting. Any change will result in the automatic restarting of the program.

Country
Although alkasir can automatically detect the country from where the connection is made, it is possible through this option to indicate the country so as to avoid an extra auto-detection step and to ensure that the proxy selected from the very start is the one intended for that country.
