Click on the below snapshot to be taken to a page where you can hover over any of the components of the below image of the browser to see their functions and how they are used.
Because the browser was built using Mozilla's open-source
Gecko engine, most of the browser's menu items are similar to those of Firefox
Mozilla and serve the same purpose. However, the Circumvention
menu has several
functions that are unique, which are briefly described here:
The Circumvention menu includes
functions that would allow you to:
Read alkasir's
Circumvention Policy:
This basically opens the
web page describing what content is allowed to be reported and circumvented
and what is rejected.
Enable Circumvention:
Ensure this
option is checked unless you want the browser serves as a regular browser
(without circumvention). This is useful sometimes when you suspect that a
particular website has been unblocked. If you turn circumvention off, and open
the website and it doesn't open, and turn it back on and it opens, this
verifies that it is still blocked.
Report
the Current URL:
If you open a link and
fails to load and you suspect it could be blocked, you can select this to
report it directly without the need to enter its URL.
Report more URLs:
This basically opens the standard form
where you can type in URLs (websites,
web pages) that you suspect are blocked by your ISP.
Scan for Changes
in Censored URLs:
You can run this function in order to check if any of the
URLs blocked were unblocked or any on the watchlist (suggested by moderators) were
blocked. Apart from this feature, it is to be noted however that alkasir also has
its own methods to regularly check the status of URLs.
List Blocked URLs:
As the title suggests, it lists the URLs verified to be
blocked by your ISP and hence are accessible through alkasir.
Suggest URLs to Keep
an Eye on:
In case you think that a website -which is not yet blocked- is in risk of
being blocked, you can suggest it here for alkasir to keep an eye on it
and see if it has changed status any time soon.
Open alkasir's Interface:
This opens the basic interface of alkasir, where you find information about your
ISP, your IP address, your region, and use other useful functions.
Settings and Options:
Here you can change
several settings and options for alkasir. Find more information
here.
Private Proxy
Settings:
Configure or sign
up for your private proxy to provide you maximum protection from being
blocked.
Circumvention
Method:
For non-moderators,
there is an option to disable dynamic tunneling. When dynamic tunneling is
disabled, every page -with all its contents- is either tunnelled through the
proxy (if it is blocked) and not tunneled at all (if it is not blocked). In
other words, if , for example, youtube.com is blocked and there are images in
youtube.com that are fetched from google.com, when dynamic tunneling is
disabled, all the contents needed to display the page, whether from a blocked
domain (youtube.com) or from a non-blocked domain (google.com) will go through
the tunnel. Similarly, if a non-blocked page (e.g., google.com) is displayed,
if the page has contents or images fetched from a blocked domain, with
static tunneling, the contents from the blocked domain will not go through the
tunnel. Beware that when you disable dynamic tunneling, some pages may apear
to be broken. It is best to use this option when viewing individual pages one
at a time and not simultaniously because the setup is
synchronous.
Note: alkasir moderators also have the option
to use full-proxy mode, which makes all content browsed go through the tunnel
regardless if they are blocked or not. This is mainly useful for testing
purposes. This feature is accessible through the Ctrl F12 shortcut
combination.
